Hello,
I have the impression that doping is more… tolerated in the NBA than elsewhere, for example, with Tony Parker mentioning on French television that he had been offered creatine or Derrick Rose’s famous statement “Everybody’s juicing.”
Given the spectacular development of muscle mass (and some jaws) among players, it indeed seems that the use of performance-enhancing drugs is quite common in the League.
What surprises me then is why, to my knowledge, we never hear about anti-doping controls at the Olympics, where anti-doping rules are theoretically much stricter.
Is it because the Olympic committee turns a blind eye for basketball, because our NBA players are all completely clean, or is it for some reason I am unaware of?
it indeed seems that the use of performance-enhancing drugs is quite common in the League.
You’re basing that off of nothing but your own assumptions.
The Olympic committee took away Usain Bolt’s record setting gold medal because one of his teammates failed a test many years after the fact.
Why would the US and NBA risk taking multiple guys who are doping if they suspect it could lead to the biggest scandal in their sport?
You’re basing that off of nothing but your own assumptions.
Hence the use of the word “seem”.
‘Nothing’ is a strong word since I base myself on some things that are not my only assumption :
- NBA’s testing policy was called a joke by US lawmakers a few decades ago : https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/nbas-steroid-policy-called-a-joke/
- Derrick Rose declared PED use is widespread a decade ago : https://www.basketballnetwork.net/latest-news/2011-derrick-rose-on-peds-its-huge-and-i-think-we-need-a-level-playing-field
It seems to me PED use is quite common in the League, indeed.
They are tested at the Olympics.
