I’ve mentioned several times that if it weren’t for the Murray game winners, the Lakers had what it takes to at least make the finals. Not sure if they beat the Celtics, but they probably could beat any team in the west last season. I’ve been criticized for this statement, but recently KCP acknowledged the Lakers probably should have beat them in the first round and the Nuggets got a little luck.

Is anybody ready to say the Lakers are title contenders going into the next season? I think there’s a real reason LeBron was able to accept the fact the Lakers didn’t acquire any all-star level talent this offseason. It’s because they’re already good enough.

They have an almost championship worthy team. Upgrade the third option and the coach and boom, there you go. But until then, well, they almost did it.
