Newly-elected PBA chairman Ricky Vargas said the four-point shot is among several rule changes approved by the board on the first day of its planning session at the Swissotel Nankai.

An arc measuring 27 feet will be put on the court during games. The three-point line, which measures 23 feet, will stay.

The 49-year-old league first introduced the creative rule during the 2023 All-Star games in Passi City, Iloilo, and was retained in the same mid-season event during the 2024 edition in Bacolod City earlier this year.

What’s fun here is that 8 point lead is just a 2 possession game.

Down by four points? You can tie that with one shot.

Lol. IIRC tayo yung may pinaka mababang 3pt % sa Asia. Hirap tayong maka-develop ng legit shooters, kahit yung mga okay ang percentages sa amateur level hindi nag ta-translate sa pro eh. Sana naman makatulong tong rule change to haha

I remember some rules in MBA (a league in Philippines way back early 2000s)

    1. Free-three - An option to trade a player’s two free throws for a free three (one attempt at the three-point arc above the free throw line, worth three points if successfully made) at the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.

    2. Blitz Three - Any field goal converted within five seconds of a change of possession will be worth three points. A red siren is installed at the backboard to indicate the Blitz Period.

Interesting that the MPBL, the MBA’s spiritual successor, isn’t adapting these innovations and instead just uses the mostly standard FIBA rules.

That first idea would prevent intentional fouls up 3. Good fix

Maybe the all star game should just be wacky rules. 4 pointers, free three, buzzer beaters worth 5, anything to make it kind of fun. I also feel like the further it gets from real basketball weirdly the players would try harder because it’s a game and they’re competitive.

Imagine blitz three in a league that also hasn’t sacrificed defensive officiating. Crazy potential

I feel like US Basketball should experiment with these types of stuff with the G-League. If it works then implement it in the NBA, if it doesn’t well no harm done.

Dumb for a pro league. They should be trying to compete with the rest of the world under FIBA rules. Leave this stuff to things like Big 3.

No issues with experimentation on this stuff but my guess is that 27ft isn’t far enough and that gap between 3 and 4pt lines will see very few shots taken

This is wild! Imagine players casually sinking four-point shots it’s gonna make games even more intense and exciting to watch.

North Korea and the Philippines are advancing the game in ways that no one has ever dared. NBA Jam will soon be classified as a simulation rather than an arcade game.

I’d rather have dunks worth 3pts to encourage more inside out play and have more cool fast break dunks and poster attempts.

Anyone remember MTV’s Rock and Jock games with the ten point shot. Oh yeah. The 90’s.
