Like we’re doing all this about a 40 year old Chris Paul? Chris Paul averaged 8 ppg and he’s at the age where the fall off is severe. I’m not even sure he’s all that better than Tre Jones anyway and he probably won’t even play over 50 games or 25 minutes with his healthy
Harrison Barnes also isn’t good anymore. Any Kings fan can tell you how horrible he is on defense and his tendency to be invisible on the court
Imo if the Spurs were serious about winning they would have gone for Trae Young and Lauri. But these moves tell me that they are going to tank. They may wind up as 13th or 14th seed in a tough West, putting them in position for a top 5 pick to add to their young core

I don’t know if they’re tanking but they should.
Getting to the playoffs too early will limit their assets in trying to build a perennial contender around Wemby.
They don’t have a chance of contention next season anyway.
Spurs fans are not excited about CP3 because they think they have magically become a winning team.
They are excited because of the belief that CP3 will help Wemby’s development.

I think there’s a difference between outright tanking, and simply just not committing to going all-in yet. I think the Spurs are wanting to build their team more while Wemby develops before committing to a specific roster build. They do not want to tie themselves up into a max contract of someone who they don’t really love just because it would net them a few more wins in the short term. That’s how you get a team that is stuck on the treadmill of mediocre, inevitably wasting the asset of Wemby on a rookie contract, before they have to throw insane money at him too.
Cooper Flagg and Wemby would be nasty work
They have 2 players in the top 20 at their position, Wemby and Vassell. That’s it. They will not be good.

It’s more of a soft tank by the nature of the West being so strong. I expect us to have mid 30’ish wins but that’s still a lottery team, which is fine by me as we hopefully have a big development year with actual vets. It might be different if we’re in the East.
