I am currently researching the inception and early days of the NBA and was trying to find good sources of the history of the NBA.

NBA History post-1960s has been well documented, but 1950s NBA history has only a few sources that repeat the same things.

Other than early NBA history I am also looking for great historical accounts in online format, video, or book.

Pistol by Mark Kriegel is excellent. Press Maravich (Pete’s dad) was part of some of the very early precursors to the nba, one of the earlier pros that moved into coaching and had very modern ideas about the game. Pete’s story is shakespearean all on its own. Cool look into basketball part of its rustbelt culture. It touches on a lot of ABA/NBA competition too

The Birth of the Modern NBA just came out, is highly researched from primary sources, and is about the NBA’s first season. It’s phenomenal!
