Watching the olympic and fiba teams play games, time and time again, it makes sense that European players have a negative bias to them when it comes draft time, especially when it comes to guards. European players lack the talent and shooting ability to compete in the nba and players like Luka and Jokic are actual anomalies. Dennis from germany is also an anomaly. It makes sense as to why since europeans with talent are playing soccer or niche spots local to them.

But wow, the talent outside of north america is almost non existent especially when it comes to guards. Look at every single team in these olympics. France has big but their guards make g league players look like allstars. Drafting a european guard is a hail mary at best even if they’re good in their european leagues.

This isnt a hate post, but NBA Gms are trully putting their jobs on the line. This is an NBA GM appreciation for not drafting europeans post as they mostly do not pan out.

Guards usually need more development time, which players outside the States usually get less of in terms of guard skills

There are some truth nuggets in there. Soccer attracts most of the best athletes in most European countries so basketball won’t get many talented athletes in the guard height range. This doesn’t affect European big men though because they’re too tall to cut it in soccer at a professional level.

I guess I want a little more than “meh, there’s a couple of half baked, fundamentally true things sprinkled in that meandering word salad”.
