Why should Canada be afraid of any team besides the United States at the Olympics? Their roster is even stronger this year with the addition of players like Murray, Nembhard, Lyles, and Birch. With Edey and Wiggins on the team, the silver medal would be just as secure as the gold for the US.

Edey and Wiggins aren’t exactly the strength of the Canada team, or at least they are unproven for the team right now
Hypothetically, they could participate this year unlike Mathurin and Sharpe. That’s why I mentioned both of them. The roster with both of them would be slightly better.
For the same reason USA should be? There are good teams, it’s single elimination. I don’t think USA’s gold medal is done deal, sure it’s likely but not guaranteed from what I see. But you really think Canada can’t drop a game against any of Serbia, France, Australia, Germany, Greece?
I feel like between top 7 anyone might take a game from anybody else. Not to say that there aren’t favorites, but I’ve seen enough basketball that I know things can happen.
When I coached junior basketball in my country during one of the seasons when we were weakest team in the league we end up taking game from the best team in the middle of the season. Both were with full rosters, they shot 4/30 from 3pt line. I’ve also been in other end where we were favorites one season against mid tier team and they end up going 51% from 3 for the game and we lost by 15 or so.
NCAA tournament upsets, Rockets vs Warriors etc.
