Context:

The state of New Jersey is making a serious push to convince the Philadelphia 76ers to move to New Jersey and into a new arena that would be built in Camden, four people familiar with the discussions confirmed to ROI-NJ.

The sources indicated that talks have picked up recently, in part because HBSE’s efforts to build a new arena in Center City Philadelphia have hit repeated roadblocks, despite the fact that the owners have indicated they would self-finance the $1.3 billion proposed project.

The Sixers, whose current lease at the Wells Fargo Center ends after the 2030-31 season, have been looking for a new home for the better part of the past five years.

Opinion: This is a story I didn’t expect to read about, could be nothing of it but the lease ending in a few years is something to keep an eye on.

There’s not a chance in hell they move to Camden. Camden is such a shithole.

The Nets couldn’t sell tickets for 10+ years in New Jersey even when they were good, but surely the 76ers will this time :)

South Jersey doesn’t rep the northern half of the state like that, from what I know they were pretty happy the Nets left and removed NJ from their name.

Not in south Jersey I don’t think. I have a bunch of family around SJ and went to high school in Camden County I literally never saw people repping Nets when I was younger.

This reads to me like HBSE is just trying to publicly cause drama to pressure the city to move forward with allowing them to build a new arena in philly.
