Players who signed with another team offering more and who in retrospect should have stayed where they were. How did that hurt his player legacy?

Maybe Tmac to Orlando? Toronto was able to form a decent squad in 00-01 season for a good playoff run, and Tmac never achieved anything on the team level in Orlando.

When Carmelo joined the Knicks, he could have waited for free agency and the Knicks would have had the cap space to sign him AND be able to keep the guys they traded for him. The Knicks would have had a lot more depth around Carmelo/Amare and really could have competed against the Heat.

Instead, Carmelo somewhat forced his way out of Denver more quickly. I believe in part was that he was worried about the upcoming CBA and wanted to secure a better contract sooner. So it’s kind of hard to blame him, but imagine his legacy if he had a team that was really able to go toe to toe with Miami and have some deep playoff runs. He might be as beloved as Brunson is now (not that he’s hated).

This is a good one. melo single handily ruined his own chances of being a champion.

Lance Stephenson signing with Charlotte in 2014. He came second in MIP voting and made back-to-back ECFs with the team. He was a huge fan favorite.

He literally came back to Indiana twice afterward and he hated it in Charlotte.

Kobes legacy is doing fine, but his last contract was an overpay, kind of a legacy contract (which he deserved) but in theory him taking less could’ve given the Lakers an opportunity to surround him with more talent so he could continue competing for championships, instead they were not good.

KD left at least 2-3 chips on the table by leaving GS. His all time ranking would probably be top 10 rn if not higher. Instead people will view Steph as the greater player all time and question KD’s ability to lead a team to a championship as it’s best player

Al Horford going to the 76ers for the bag, being dumped to the Thunder where he got to rest after being too good and then coming back to the Celtics and winning a title was awesome

Not taking an extra year to develop at USC and then going straight to the draft to play for the Lakers.

Side bet: who retires from the NBA first. Bronny or LeDaddy

Carmelo Anthony taking the money over the shorter deal. Apparently it was supposed to be him, D-Wade, and Lebron as the actual big 3 to link up.

Also Carmelo Anthony again, resigning with the Knicks. Mavericks, Chicago, and San Antonio all had interest in signing him. I’m not saying he would’ve been guaranteed a championship, but any of those places were better options than taking the money in NYC. He chose the money again.

I don’t think Lebrons blatant nepotism with his son is going to end well for him or bronny. Maybe he can mony coddle bronny and help ease his path to fame and riches in the NBA like so many other families in business. The difference is literally everything is going to be done in front of thousands of people and much of it recorded live. This is different from giving your son the promotion he doesn’t deserve in the family law firm.

The real question is how many of them regret choosing the money. Probably very few, likely none. Player legacy is something fans discuss, idk if actual players care about their legacy. If they did, they probably wouldn’t have chosen the money in the first place.
