Since the US didn’t start sending pros until 1992 it wouldn’t be fair to include players who weren’t eligible. So for the sake of argument let’s say they had to be 30 years old or younger at 1992. So players like Kareem/Wilt/Bill Russell/Jerry West/Elgin Baylor/Bill Walton aren’t applicable.

With those parameters who is the best American player without a gold medal?

The Answer Allen Iverson to the question why did Team USA have a brickfest. Team USA could not overcome Iverson chucking and bricking

          • 25% in the Olympic semi-finals loss

          • 38% for the whole Olympics

If you look at the 2001 Eastern Conference finals, a team really has to overcome Iverson jacking up bricks to win a game. Unfortunately, team USA could not do that.

          • Allen Iverson shot 34% with bad defense in the 2001 Eastern Conference finals

          • Sixers won game 5 DESPITE Iverson shooting 18% going 5 for 27 while Dikembe had 21 pts, 13 rbs, and 2 blks

          • Dikembe Mutombo averaged 17 ppg and 16 rpg in the 2001 Eastern Conference finals

          • All-NBA type defenders and another defensive specialist McKie averaged 16, 6 and 5 in that series.
